    Radio Luxembourg 208

Not a Pirate Radio station, however Radio Luxembourg had a huge influence on the pirate stations of the sixties. The way it used advertising to make revenue, used jingles and catch phrases and its 'with it' approach to the pop music from the 50's onwards was all mimicked by the pirates.. Radio Luxembourg, or 208, or 'Your Station of the Stars' first started broadcasting as a multi-lingual commercial station in 1933 and spanned 60 years until its shut-down in 1992. Radio Luxemburg claimed to have the most powerful transmitter in the world and broadcast to all of Great Britain including Ireland, The station was renowned for its program fade as some of our 'off-air' recordings will show. Our MP3 CD recordings span the whole of Radio Luxembourg's (later known as RTL Radio Luxembourg and RTL208) 60 years of broadcasting and are aimed at the enthusiast / collector.
